The King and Queen of England

[Sandy Denny]

The song is a typical Denny song in 3/4 time, sounding not unlike Like an Old Fashioned Waltz. It was recorded at home in Byfield, Northamptonshire, in December 1974 as a demo with Sandy accompanying herself on piano. This track was produced by Trevor Lucas. For many years this remained a song well known to exist without being available in any form. It was eventually released in the 7LP box set to celebrate 25 years of Island Records, Island Life. The song was made more accessible when it was included in the Circle Dance charity compilation in 1990. It was also included in The Attic Tracks Vol. 1, on The Attic Tracks CD, in 2004 on the 5CD Fledg’ling Sandy Denny anthology A Boxful of Treasures, and in 2005 as bonus track of the CD reissue of Like an Old Fashioned Waltz.
