Sweet Little Rock ’n’ Roller

[Chuck Berry]

Richard Thompson, vocal, guitar;
Pat Donaldson, bass guitar;
Gerry Conway, drums;
Tony Cox, piano;
Roger Bell, sax;
Mike Rosen, trumpet;
Sandy Denny, Linda Peters, backing vocals

Like all songs from the LP Rock On, this track was recorded at The Manor, Oxfordshire in January 1972 and produced by Trevor Lucas. The Bunch was an ad hoc collection of “Fairport family” members who gathered together to record this collection of rock’n’roll songs. Apparently the reason behind the recording was to test the newly-opened Manor Studios.

Richard Thompson previously recorded this song during the sessions for Fairport’s album Live at the LA Troubadour (Richard Thompson, guitar, vocal; Simon Nicol, guitar; Dave Swarbrick, violin; Dave Pegg, bass guitar; Dave Mattacks, drums); the song saw release on his (Guitar, Vocal) album.
