Put the Road in Order
John Kirkpatrick sang his own song Put the Road in Order in 2001 on Brass Monkey's fourth album Going and Staying. The album's sleeve notes commented:
In the early 1900s, the collector Gavin Greig found loads of people in Aberdeenshire still singing about a road which had been built a hundred years previously—The Buchan Turnpike. In translating the song from the broad Scots dialect into singable English John has done so much re-writing, including adding a chorus, thet the good people of Buchan would be spinning in their graves if they knew. You can find the original in Roy Palmer's book Strike the Bell.
