Fairport Convention with Ian Matthews on lead and Sandy Denny on harmony vocals recorded Close the Door Lightly When You Go on 28 May 1968 in BBC Studio 1, 201 Piccadilly, for John Peel’s Top Gear radio show, produced by Bernie Andrews. This was broadcast on 2 June 1968 with a repeat on 30 June 1968. The track was released in 1976 on their cassette Heyday and in 2007 on their 4 CD set Live at the BBC.

Ian Matthews also sang Close the Door Lightly When You Go in 1972 on his Vertigo album Tigers Will Survive.
