Scottish Tradition

This is a series of collections from various regions of Scotland selected from the huge archive of the School of Scottish Studies. It was hailed as “the most important series of traditional recordings ever”.

This series was released on the Tangent label in the 1970s and was reissued and expanded on Greentrax Recording from 1993 on.

Performaces chosen from a number of recordings made by Frances Collison and Calum MacLean in 1953/4. Francis Collison reported that occasionally P.M. MacLean referred to his copy of C.S. Thomason’s Ceol Mor (1900) during recording sessions but that he had an excellent memory despite his 77 years.
